(World Of Twist - somewhat shorter than average life expectancy)
If you don't take into consideration a first incarnation of World of Twist, they were together a little less than two years which, by Rock standards probably equals about fifteen minutes in real life.
World Of Twist were based out of Sheffield and first got together in 1985 but quickly dissolved, re-emerging and re-locating in Manchester in 1989. Although it should be noted they really didn't consider themselves to be part of the Madchester scene that was developing there at the time. It was during this incarnation that got the attention of a number of labels, based on a demo tape made in 1990 and they landed a deal with the Indie label Circa Records in London. The result of that demo became the ep from which tonight's track The Storm evolved. Although they had high hopes from the press and the audience based on this ep, when they released their first (and only) album Quality Street in 1991 it went nowhere and was a bitter disappointment. Despite touring extensively throughout Europe and getting a good word of mouth finally going, they were pretty well discouraged and called it quits in 1992.
World of Twist never toured the U.S. and they were never picked up by a label here. So unless you spent a lot of time scrounging the Import bin, it's very unlikely you've heard of them, until now.
Check them out and see if you think you missed something or not. This is the extended 12" version of The Storm so, even if they are familiar, this version of the track still may not be. Check it out anyway.
