The chickens are coming home to roost in the Bridgegate scandal as NBC News has learned that NJ legislators are considering if they should bring articles of impeachment against Gov. Christie.

This follows early testimony in the George Washington Bridge scandal trial, which some Assembly members believe shows the Republican governor had more knowledge of the lane closures in Fort Lee during and after that week in 2013 then he has led the public to believe.

One committee chairman who did not want to be named said "clearly obstruction of justice" would be an obvious charge against the governor. The legislator told NBC 4 New York the chances are probably 50-50 that the assembly would pursue impeachment.

It hasn't helped Christie's case that a former aide said he "flat out lied" about what he said publicly about the lane closings.

Yes. But he lied," Renna texted. "And if emails are found with the subpoena or ccfg emails are uncovered in discovery if it comes to that it could be bad."

In response to the news, Christie responded in one word.

A Christie spokesman offered a one-word response to the report: "Ridiculous."

The decision on impeachment will be up to Democratic Speaker Vincent Prieto and if he gives the go-ahead, the Assembly Judiciary Committee would begin the process.

It takes a majority of the 80-member Assembly to vote articles of impeachment.
