Gov. Chris Christie sure likes spending money that he doesn't have. First there's a federal investigation on the way he spent Hurricane Sandy relief monies, and now comes Bridgegate.
Gov. Chris Christie’s campaign has run up more than $300,000 in legal fees and other expenses relating to the George Washington Bridge scandal, according to newly released campaign finance documents.
Christie’s campaign paid $50,000 to Patton Boggs — the law firm representing it — and owes it another $110,000. The campaign also owes $154,000 to Stroz Friedberg, a firm that, according to its website, employs the a “the brightest minds in the fields of digital forensics, investigations, forensic accounting, incident response, security, compliance, data discovery, intelligence and due diligence.”
The expenses, which were first reported by the Wall Street Journal, are paid for exclusively by Christie’s campaign account. Records from the campaign related to the George Washington Bridge lane closures been subpoenaed by the New Jersey U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Christie campaign received only $3,800 in donations during the first three months of this year, with a total of $156,587 in cash on hand, according to the report. The document lists $264,000 in legal fees as debts, meaning that the campaign could have to raise more funds to pay them.
