Add the Trump Taj Mahal to the long list of Trump brands that have unexpectadly closed or gone bankrupt, leaving employees in the lurch with no jobs, no benefits and no salaries. Trump screams that there are no jobs in America and he is bringing them back. While complaining that companies outsource their jobs overseas, he is also actively hiring foreign workers at his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida.
Yes, this casino isn't "technically" Donald Trump's problem anymore as of 6 months ago, but it was for 25 years and he nearly drove it into the ground. It still retains his name and much of the staff has stuck around since well before it changed ownership.
Press of Atlantic City reports that Trump's Taj Mahal casino and hotel is set to close after Labor Day weekend. Whoops. I guess we can just add this to the long list of Trump branded items that have gone under, including steak, water, airlines, etc.
Trump has not owned the hotel since it went into bankruptcy back in 2014. He sold it to his good friend, Carl Icahn. But the casino has always retained Trump's branding and logo, which apparently is not carrying as much weight lately.
The Trump Taj Mahal opened in April of 1990 and at the height of its success, employed over 2,100 staff. One of Trump's friends, Carl Icahn, took full ownership of the Taj Mahal in February of 2016 but kept the branding of the hotel, once seen as an asset. Branding anything with the Trump name is probably a liability now.
