UPDATED: VA State Police say he is in "very serious condition", but still alive.
UPDATED: The suspect has killed himself, the station reports.
The shooter reported for the station under the name Bryce Williams. He says on his Twitter feed that the female victim made racist remarks about him:
The suspect in the shootings of the television news crew has been identified as Vester Lee Flanagan, 41, according to Jean Sepulveda, the office manager of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office. She said he was in a 2009 silver or gray Ford Mustang with a Virginia license plate. Sepulveda said that the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
Virginia State Police said in a statement that troopers are not in active pursuit of the suspect, apparently meaning that they do not have the suspect in sight.
But Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said in a television interview: “They know the license. They know the individual. They know the car and they’re going to do it in a peaceful matter.”
The shooter filmed the attack and posted it to Twitter and his Facebook page. His account is now suspended.
