Regardless of how she sounds, Jenkins was, apparently, firmly convinced of her greatness. Her shows were also few and far between in small venues, but were met with very high demand. While she usually avoided larger venues, she finally decided to perform at Carnegie Hall at age 76 in response to public demand. Tickets for the performance had sold out long before the event took place. It seems a bit mean-spirited to be that interested in someone for their lack of ability, but she didn't seem to mind and, in fact, was made more confident by the public's enthusiasm for her performances. It's a bit of a weird situation, but I suppose it worked out for everyone in the end. It should be interesting to see how they handle this in the movie.
