Throughout his career, he was a composer, arranger, conductor, author, educator, and pianist, which is more than you can say for most musicians. Whether he was performing, writing, or teaching young people about music, he put all of his effort into whatever he was doing, and that's what made him so great. So here's his very first symphony, a programmatic work that follows the story of the prophet Jeremiah. There you have it, folks, some of my favorite music that's based on my least favorite book.
