Sax was an inventor of several wind instruments, including the saxotromba, the saxhorn, and the saxtuba. However, none of those became more well known or widely used than the saxophone. In fact, without the instrument, the face of western music would probably be vastly different than what it is today. So, as a celebration of the saxophone, here's a piece by composer Hector Berlioz, an early adopter of the saxophone and an admirer of Sax's inventions. This piece is thought to be the earliest original composition for saxophone in existence.
