Beck's always had good stuff. Although "Loser" was what made Beck's career take off a few years prior, Odelay was his first work that was acclaimed as an album. Even though he had some solid albums before, by the time Odelay was released, he had developed his style enough to incorporate elements from all genres. This included expanding his instrumentation, a move which branched away from the minimalist, anti-folk sound that he started out with.
