5 Most Underrated '90's Rock Acts

(I'm in a list-making mood.)

1. Juliana Hatfield

2. Quicksand

3. King's X

4. Shudder to Think

5. The Posies

The "underrated" list is always a tough one and sure to start an argument. I always try to exclude bands that either were big commercially but were underrated critically (Alice in Chains) or short-sellers that are nonetheless beloved (Jawbreaker). All the acts on my personal "no fair" list dealt with or continue to deal with playing to rooms that were three-quarters full and a lifetime of two-and-a-half star reviews.

Juliana Hatfield tops the list for me for really taking the worst of that -- a couple singles that were minor hits followed by a string of albums each better than the last, each garnering less attention. 2005's Made in China is certainly the best eighth album that I own, and I own AC/DC's For Those About To Rock (We Salute You).

Who are your favorite overlooked '90's acts?
