Something out of the ordinary tonight. The world premier performance of Paul Hindemith's Concerto for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Harp as it was presented and recorded on May 15, 1949 with the CBS Radio Symphony conducted by Thor Johnson.

This particular recording comes by way of a set of 78 acetate discs which were very popular at the time among collectors who were looking for unusual and important historic recordings not otherwise available through the regular channels. Today we call them "bootlegs" but at the time it was what you had in your collection if you were serious about your music

Times have changed.
