Maurice Thiriet - all around composer known probably more for movie scores than anything else.

I know - it says Sunday even though it's Monday. It's what happens when you fall asleep at your computer in the middle of a post and don't hit the "Save" button.

In any event, pretend it's Sunday for a few minutes.

Digging back into the discs from the Radio France Transcription Service, here is a recording from 1949, as performed by the French Radio Orchestra conducted by Pierre Michel LeConte of music by Maurice Thiriet.

It's interesting that only lately Thiriet is being recognized outside of France for the large body of Symphonic and Chamber works he composed, rather just the tremendous amount of Film scores he did throughout his career. It certainly wasn't the case back home, as Thiriet enjoyed a wide popularity throughout Europe for his versatility.

At any rate, one of his non-film score pieces is music for the ballet La Nuit Venitienne which Thiriet composed in 1938.

It just goes to prove there's a lot to like out there in unfamiliar territory.
