(Eamon DeValera shortly after his arrival in the U.S.)
It just wouldn't be St. Patrick's Day withhout a word or two from Ireland's greatest statesman Eamon DeValera. Recorded in 1919 during an extended visit and fund-raising for the IRA, DeValera appealed to the U.S. to intervene, by way of the newly constructed League Of Nations, with the hope of achieving independence. A situation that continues to this day in Northern Ireland.
"No. The Irish do not hate England. The Irish desire peace with England and the rest of the world."
