(Phil King - getting raves - taking it in stride)
Our Tuesday installment of Singer-Songwriter Week brings us over to Bristol (the town where more than is imagined happens, it seems) and Phil King who has been quietly gigging around the country and getting rave reviews the past few years. I got word from my friends over at The Louisiana who are booking him as an opening act in the next few weeks and they sent a link to his MySpace page where this track, Leaves from 2006 and a bunch of others really grabbed my attention, including some material off his new album, which is currently on sale (hint-hint). Really nice production with a Hammond B3 in the forefront and a very soulful (in that Al Green sort of mode) restrained vocal given by Mr. King. The nice part about his voice is that it has a wide range as you'll notice with his other tracks on his site. Good stuff, worth a listen and good lyrics too. You can't beat it.
All in all, a nice background to some mellow reflection on a Tuesday night.
