(The Nova Saints - Living proof music is far from dead)
The Nova Saints were one of the first bands I discovered on MySpace. It was pretty easy - just pointed my cursor at Random, clicking Go and there they were. I did a quick scan through their songs and was knocked out within the first few bars of the first track. They had just put out their first ep "The Draft" (it's also available on download), so I grabbed one and I've been playing it ever since.
Another great discovery who are not, as yet, on a label. But as I'm finding with a lot of acts on MySpace these days, they aren't waiting for a label but doing it all themselves. And the end results are more than worth it. I am starting to realize this is the wave of the future for music, and more power to them.
This track, Slow Down, is off that ep. It's also on their MySpace page player and is available. If you like this track, there are several new ones that haven't as yet come out on another ep or an album (which I understand they are working on).
As with all of these acts, support is crucial. Since they don't have anything like airplay or a major label to rely on, it's up to people who like them to support and encourage them to keep it going.
Seeing as this is the second band from Bristol I've featured so far, it's a pretty safe bet to assume there is a scene developing that needs further investigating.
