Maldita Vecindad - without them, Rock en Espanol would have been really boring.

Tonight it's one of the bands that pioneered the genre Rock en Espanol. Maldita Vecindas came along at a time when bands in non-speaking parts of the world were starting to flex their creative muscles and make the world aware of their existence.

Pachuco (tonight's track) comes off their second album, Circus, which was released in 1991 and became a breakthrough in the Rock n' Roll Language Barrier that kept a lot bands outside of the U.S. from making inroads to an appreciative audience. It sparked another movement within the music community in Europe and Mexico; Music In Your Own Language.

Pachuco proved to be a big hit for the band, making Maldita the first band to punch through the formerly English-Only Rock Establishment in 1991.

Not that long ago and still pretty fresh.
