Pointed to by some as the day the Great National Nervous Breakdown started.

Hard to imagine it was 37 years ago this evening that President Nixon went before cameras and microphones and announced he was resigning the Office Of President.

But since today has been something of a roller-coaster, it may have passed by unnoticed. But it's a reminder this August 8th has been a busy day in history anyway. Maybe it's just August.

Here are two sets of recordings - the top player features breaking news from the radio networks (CBS, NBC, ABC) of the pending resignation address, plus commentary and speculation. The bottom player features the Resignation address itself (in the insane event you haven't heard it a few thousand times in your life).

And so goes history.
