Trump was barred from attacking members of the staff of Justice Arthur Engoron, who is presiding over the New York fraud trial. But Potty Mouth Trump can’t seem to help himself. In this case, he tried to lie his way out of trouble by pretending he had been smearing Michael Cohen and the judge, not the law clerk sitting next to him. It didn’t go so well.
"This judge is a very partisan judge," Trump was quoted by the AP as saying, "with a person who is very partisan sitting right beside him, perhaps even more partisan than he is."
A visibly irritated Engoron called Trump to the witness stand, where he told the judge he was referring not to the law clerk, whom he's barred from disparaging, but to "you and Michael Cohen" in his previous comment about the person "right beside" the judge.
Engoron found Trump “not very credible” and that his excuse “doesn’t make sense to me.”
The result? Trump was slapped with a $10,000 fine. This is on top of the $5,000 fine imposed just last week for violating the gag order.
Let’s hope the fines keep doubling, with a side order of jail time or house arrest. You know there will be a next time.
