Leigh McGowan, Politics Girl, talks about the hot mess which is North Carolina. While the governor and attorney general are Democrats, the Republicans have veto-proof majorities in both houses and have a large majority on the state supreme court. And the Republicans aren't wasting time. They are passing legislation as fast as they can to ensure they maintain control and to put themselves out of touch.

Unfortunately, McGowan is writing off North Carolina as a lost cause. Ironically, she then cites my home state of Wisconsin as an example of how people can come back from the brink. I have news for McGowan.

Wisconsin was just as bad off as North Carolina. Maybe even worse. For a while, the Republicans controlled the entire government. But between the people's persistence and too much overreach by the arrogant Republicans, we have started clawing back our state. In 2018, we won the state wide offices. And over the years, we eventually won the majority on the supreme court. It wasn't easy. It wasn't quick. And we have to keep fighting to restore more of our democracy while being ever vigilant to not lose what we have already gotten back. But it can be done.
