Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for "judicial overhaul" because he's facing three different corruption charges and he wants to appoint his own judges. A whole lot of Israeli citizens beg to differ, and they're out in the streets. Meanwhile, the extreme right forces in the country back the "reforms." Via the Washington Post:
JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced mounting pressure Monday to halt his government’s drive to remake Israel’s judicial system as the backlash against the plan engulfed the country and strikes threatened national paralysis.
Israeli universities, workers’ unions, hospitals, malls and Israel’s national carrier, El Al, announced a general strike, and the international airport indefinitely terminated outgoing flights. Tends of thousands of protesters from around the country flooded into Jerusalem to express their opposition to the plan.
As calls for Netanyahu to stand down came from across the government, business community and opposition, including from Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Netanyahu’s own longtime lawyer, local media reported he would make a public statement Monday morning.
John Amato adds: "McConnell packed the Supreme Court by denying a sitting president (Obama) of filling a vacancy when Scalia died with ten months left in his term, claiming it was during the 2016 election cycle. Then when Ruth Bader Ginsburg died a few weeks before the 2020 election, McConnell reversed his position and voted in a new Justice.
Netanyahu is echoing these past atrocities.
This is a trick Trump would love to accomplish since he's such an immoral and corrupt man-baby."
