In case you've missed this news, Bibi Netanyahu is taking a sledgehammer to Israeli democracy by empowering Parliament and weakening the courts, which would give Netanyahu a way out of his corruption charges. In response, Israelis have taken to the streets in huge numbers to protest the extremist right wing government.
Right here at home, liars are popping out of the woodwork like ants pouring out of the ground on a hot day in the desert. We have Andy Ogles, the Tennessee congressman who claimed he was an economist, had directed a nonprofit and served in law enforcement. Ogles is the one who shouted out "It's your fault!" in response to Biden's State of the Union address remarks about fentanyl, earning him liar wingnut cred in the Republican Party. Anna Paulina Luna is another one who lied about her past, and it's far more than just embellishments, as our lying friend George Santos likes to say. And of course, we can't leave out Lyin' Donald, who has escalated his gaslighting to new levels. Also, Alaska senator Dan Sullivan got the vapors and nearly fainted over FCC nominee Gigi Sohn telling the truth about their hateful behavior toward the LGBTQIA community.
Of course, the Liar of the Week just might be Fox News, where all the big players in the room knew that the claims of election fraud were utter BS, but they nevertheless persisted. I'm still reading through the entire 192-page filing, but the level of cynicism is just astounding. At one point, Tucker Carlson went ballistic on Jacqui Heinrich not because she misreported something, but because she fact-checked. Via Oliver Darcy, Tucker's reaction to this fact-check:
Jacqui Heinrich: "There's no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes or was in any way compromised."
Tucker reached out to Sean Hannity: "Please get her fired. Seriously, what the fuck? I'm actually shocked...It needs to stop immediately, like tonight. It's measurably hurting the company. The stock price is down. Not a joke."
Yeah, lying liars gotta lie. For the stock price, of course. Boy howdy, is their stock price ever going to tank after Dominion wins their defamation lawsuit. Fox is now reduced to arguing that Dominion isn't worth the $1.6 billion they're suing for. Good luck with that.
On the upside, this country has one fewer Nazi now.
