It was one of the single greatest State of the Union speeches of the past few decades. Even the media agreed, however reluctantly.

On policy, the President was unbelievable. To the commentariat in mainstream media--who care only for performance, often to our great detriment--he was unparalleled. To the whining, slithering snakes of the GOP, he was unbowed.

He rightfully bragged about the 500,000+ jobs he created in January, and lowest unemployment since before we walked on the Moon. He called for guaranteed abortion rights nationally and a ban on all assault weapons. But it's how he did it that was even better.

He brought both strength and humility, humor and purpose. Republicans had no idea whether to stand and clap, sit on their hands or scream "liar" as Marjorie Taylor Greene did in response to his calling them out on their plans to cut Social Security.

And that's where the president delivered a master class, chuckling and turning Greene's attack back on her and her colleagues by calmly mocking them about their "conversion" on Social Security and how happy he was that they were now together on team #SocialSecurity.

It truly was a speech for the ages. And that's why Republicans are trying desperately to change the subject.
