During today's Gold Medal Ceremony honoring those officers who defended the US Capitol during the Jan 6 attack, several recipients ignored Republican leaders McCarthy and McConnell, refusing to shake their hands as they walked past them.
Speaker Pelosi opened today's festivities thusly:
"It is my privilege to welcome you to the United States Capitol as we award the Congressional Gold Medal to the heroes of January 6, 2021," Pelosi said. "In doing so we honor their extraordinary service and sacrifice for courageously answering the call to defend our nation's democracy in one of our nation's darkest hours."
As recipients from the Capitol and Metropolitan police received their honors, they all shook Majority leader Chuck Schumer's hand, but then walked past Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell with barely a glance, refusing to shake their hands.
That was as powerful a rebuke as one could make in uniform, in public, against those that have coddled, enabled, and then refused to participate in holding those accountable for the insurrection on January 6.
As Speaker Pelosi encouraged the audience to cheer, McCarthy and McConnell stood on like fools holding medals in their hands -- with no takers.
