Elon Musk is a failure. But because he also is a billionaire (or was), he is subject to the Emperor's New Clothes treatment. Everything he does is brilliant! Even when it fails! Even though Tesla engines erupt in flames and the self-driving feature kills people!
And he's killing Twitter, which feels personal to me.
I love Twitter. At its best, it's like being a guest at the world's greatest party. We share ideas and music and politics. It's also (or at least, was) the world's best breaking news machine.
Now it's turned into a place for Musk to amplify the right-wing fringe. (I dunno, Elon -- was it worth spending $44 billion just to make Putin happy?)
The other thing is, like Trump and Putin, he surrounds himself with people who tell him what he wants to hear. (I've lost track of how many Twitter engineers he's fired so far, most for the crime of politely disagreeing with him.) He places his personal feelings above the survival of the company, which is just a little strange for someone who's said to be a business genius.
And he just removed this:
He doesn't really invent things. He buys them, and then he breaks them, utterly indifferent to the effect on employees and users. He's a terrible person.
He's one of the 2022 Crookie Fails of the Year.
