Sheldon Whitehouse stopped by Hardball to discuss the latest news about Robert Mueller and the Russiagate investigation earlier today. While he was on the topic of obstructing justice and the like, he had a warning for Sarah Huckabee Sanders in relation to her intentional efforts to slime James Comey last week.
Just to review, on three separate occasions during press conferences last week, Sanders went after Comey. It was entirely intentional, planned, and done with malice. Specifically, Huckabee Sanders claimed that Comey's release of that memo was somehow a terrible violation of his position, in spite of the fact that the information contained therein was not classified information and was his own personal contemporaneous notes.
Senator Whitehouse took a dim view of it, pronouncing her actions "three torpedoes...shot at James Comey."
In Whitehouse's opinion, those cheap and intentional shots could open up a third line of inquiry for Robert Mueller based upon what he views as an intentional effort on her part to taint Comey in the eyes of the Grand Jury.
"The question for Sarah Huckabee Sanders is who asked you to do that, who told you to do that?," Whitehouse explained. "And once you know who, you look to the motivation, and if the motivation was to poison the reputation of James Comey with the Grand Jurors you have another indictment."
Got that, Sarah Huckabee Sanders? Show up for the White House briefing tomorrow and trash James Comey again. I dare you. Let's see how long it is before Robert Mueller is hauling YOU in for questioning.
On a personal level, nothing would please me more than seeing that flat-voiced stenographer have to answer for her lies. Nothing.
