Everybody knows Brian Kilmeade's Mensa Application Acceptance Letter got lost in the mail, right? Maybe that's what he's looking for while others are talking during this clip, because his eyes are shifting all over the place.
And he and fellow genius Ainsley Earnhart earned an "F" in how to cover an educational story by making the stupidest comments toward an educator this week and possibly ever.
They interviewed the Superintendent of the Greater Clark County Schools (Indiana) Andrew Melin about the district's decision to discontinue the title of "Valedictorian" at the district's three high schools.
This district is doing literally nothing wrong. They have over a 94% graduation rate at each high schools. Nearly every student pursues post-secondary education. One of their joint high schools, New Washington Middle/High School, is nationally recognized as a US News and World Report. They provide AP and college dual credit courses. ANY school administrator would give more than one digit on his/her dominant hand to have a school system with this much going for them.
That said, they also don't have the problems that other school systems face daily. None of the schools has over 2,500 students, and none of the schools is "majority of students in poverty" (that's a headstart right there). They are located on the Ohio River across from Louisville, KY, a job magnet and urban center with cultural opportunities. But being across the river means they're white flight, likely, and certainly a suburban haven for white people with kids.
This. School. Has. Resources.
Mr. Melin points out that removing the Valedictorian label from graduation was done because principals were complaining about it. Students were making course choices based on getting easy "A"s (you remember THOSE, Ainsley Earnhart!) rather than course work that would serve their longer term futures. Better they should take more math and less "basket weaving" as Brian Kilmeade said before he went back to whining about how "there can only be one Number One!"
Actually, there can be multiple number ones. Many schools wind up with more than ten valedictorians these days. And that's part of the problem.
But Ainsley thinks these kids won't get into Harvard because the title "Valedictorian" is being TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM.
She is an idiot. And it's pathetic that the idiots on Fox and Friends know less about educational outcomes than they do about creating fake outrage about "taking away" a phoney title from already privileged students.
