Ted Cruz's calculated decision to embrace Donald Trump last week has infuriated his most avid supporters, including Glenn Beck.
The Texas Senator joined Beck today on his radio show and The Blaze TV to explain his choice to ditch principle for political expediency.
Let's just say it didn't go well.
After the interview ended, Beck said "For the very first time I heard Ted Cruz calculate, and when that happened the whole thing fell apart for me. It's my fault for believing that men can actually believe George Washington. It's my fault."
Sen. Cruz started the interview with a disingenuous case that there's only a "binary choice" in this election now and that's why he's choosing to vote for Trump. Then shifted to the Supreme Court.
Beck refused to buy in and said, "This is information you had in Cleveland, you had this information the day you dropped out of the race and said that Donald Trump is a sociopathic liar so you had all this information."
Glenn continued, "Do you have new information that has made you say 'Oh, my God, he's now not a sociopathic liar ....and now suddenly there's a reason to believe him?"
Sen. Cruz didn't answer his question and once again brought up the "we are in a general election with a binary choice" example and Beck fired back and said, "I'm asking for new information."
Beck, "I'm asking you for new information...Why now? What's new?"
Sen. Cruz made believe Trump's list of Supreme Court justice picks swayed him, but that's ridiculous.
After a commercial break, Glenn Beck eventually went off on his favorite guy.
Beck started by saying that for the first time he "heard Ted Cruz calculate" and then explained why he should have backed Sen, Rubio.
"He's a young politician, he's a Hispanic, he can win, lets go for it. Instead I said, let's find a truly honorable man. And that will always let you down."
He still believed Ted Cruz was a good man, but that he was just a politician in his mind now and he blamed himself for believing otherwise.
"The interview pissed me off....That was so calculated that it was stunning to me."
Glenn Beck said:
"We have become PETA. Shame on all of us," Beck fumed over being repeatedly told by Cruz that this election represents a "binary choice" between Hillary Clinton and Trump, outraged that on every issue, the only thing that seems to matter now is that you agree with the people on your side. "Why not, if you won't vote for Hillary or you won't vote for Trump, why not just cover me in a bucket of blood?"
"Why not just shame me in the public square?" Beck thundered. "There is no difference between the two teams any more ... Which one is for the idea that all men are created equal? That all men have a right to pursue their own happiness and make their own goddamn decisions? Which one? Which one? I contend neither of them and so we will just soak each other in buckets of blood. We'll be a happy little bumper-sticker community that shames one another to make sure you walk in goosestep with all the other Hillary supporters or walk in goosestep with all the other Trump supporters."
