After a cascade of reports about trouble between the RNC and Donald Trump, a meeting is scheduled to take place today.
According to POLITICO, the Trump folks called the meeting as a "routine matter," but there is speculation that the letter from over 70 influential donors calling for the RNC to pull funding out from under the Trump campaign for downballot races is really the source of his angst.
The request for the Orlando Ritz Carlton meeting originated with Trump’s campaign, according to a source familiar with the broad details, and is being viewed by RNC officials as a sign that the campaign has come to grips with the difficulty it is having in maintaining a message and running a ground game.
“They want to patch up a rift that just keeps unfolding,” one source said. “They finally realize they need the RNC for their campaign because, let’s face it, there is no campaign.”
Another person familiar with the meeting, a Republican operative who works with the campaign, said the planned gathering was “a come-to-Jesus meeting.” That source said that many Trump campaign staffers share the party officials’ frustrations with Trump’s penchant for self-sabotaging rhetoric. “What’s bothering people on the campaign is that they feel like they’re doing all the right things, but they’re losing every news cycle to Hillary and there’s nothing they can do about it.”
I think that's precious, don't you? Considering that Trump dominates the news for every cycle with his intentional demonization of President Barack Obama and opponent Hillary Clinton, it's hard to imagine Republicans wringing their tiny little hands over losing news cycles to her.
Of course, she's happy to cede them, given that she's just stumping right along, with polls going her way everywhere because the majority of the country doesn't really want a person like Drumpf anywhere near the nuclear codes.
This is delusional. Imagining that they can ever possibly reign in Trump is just ridiculous, but check this tweet storm by a Texas Republican operative. It's long, so I've just pulled a few of the tweets for you here, because it's also absurd.
5/ More fundamentally, the Trump campaign needs to discover the value of scarcity. Make Trump scarce. Fewer interviews. Shorter rallies.

6/ Do they have a daily message? It appears when there's a speech. Otherwise it does not appear they have a daily message. That's insane.

7/ Can Trump show discipline for the rest of August? No more loose talk. Exciting a crowd isn't impressive. Winning a battleground state is.

8/ Trump is threatening the entire GOP and it could take a decade to erase the damage. We are looking at an extinction-level event.

Aw, cry me a river. This is the Republican Party they've all built. We've written about it for years and years. It's simply a response to what they've done by obstructing and "othering" our President for the past eight years, and behaving like spoiled children who didn't get their candy.
11/ If it were up to me, he would demonstrate discipline and focus the rest of Aug while beginning aggressive debate prep (20 hrs/week).
— Matt Mackowiak (@MattMackowiak) August 11, 2016
How precious. There are actually Republicans who think he can be disciplined?
13/ Sept the race becomes fluid again. People start paying attention. Expectations for Trump's debate will be low. He needs to overperform.

Set the bar low. Really low.
14/ You can't overstate panic inside GOP currently. Lots of conversations taking place. More defections coming. Will they be before debate?
— Matt Mackowiak (@MattMackowiak) August 11, 2016
The right question to ask is, "Will there even be a debate?"
None of these Republicans really understand the problem here, do they? You cannot build a party for old white nativist haters and win. It's really that simple.
