I did hope that CNN's Jeffrey Lord would take a vacation so I wouldn't have to cover his constant rewrites of history into a...
Fantasy of Conservative Delight!!!
He joined CNN's Carol Costello this morning to discuss Trump's impromptu visit to Mexico and as usual, Lord took the opportunity to tear up all history books and deliver his own, fact-free comparison.
It would be laughable if it wasn't CNN's attempt to "cover" the Presidential race.
Trump's uber-cheerleader told CNN that Donald's trip to Mexico is just as important as when Richard Nixon visited China in 1972.
CNN host Carol Costello asked Lord this, "What do you make of this?"
Lord replied, "Leadership. One of the things that crossed my mind was Richard Nixon going to China, where you have a president in that case, who was a hard-line anti-communist and yet he opened the doors for real change with China.”
Say, what? What Nixon did was important for sure, but taking a quick trip to a country that Donald has mocked for over a year now is suddenly historic door-opening?
In 1972, an American president hadn't visited the People's Republic of China since it was established in 1949.
And it was especially notable because we were heavily involved in the Cold War. The trip also helped strengthen our relationship with the PRC against the Soviet Union.
Costello pushed back against his nonsense by saying, “But President Nixon didn’t talk about China in quite the terms that Donald Trump has talked Mexico."
Lord replied, "He talked about communism in those terms. This was communist China."
“He didn’t say that China was sending its criminals into the United States and China was corrupt.”
Lord then launched into his basic Trump talking points on Mexico and his immigration policies.
"What Donald Trump is talking about repeatedly is enforcing our immigration laws. Building the wall."
Richard Nixon did not propose adding on to the great Wall of China!
Nixon didn't call the Chinese rapists to start with and of course, we didn't share a border with them, but Lord loves to make up fantasies and share them on CNN.
Stephen Choi then added that Trump's trip to Mexico was a desperate move, saying, "I think what you're seeing here is a desperate campaign. Seeing some effort to pivot to the middle."
I know Lord is not going to be pulled off CNN anytime soon, but really. Is it too much to ask that the other hosts push back harder against his nonsense and lies?
