Constitution-loving Senator Ted Cruz is being called upon by two Democratic colleagues to do his job and hold hearings on whether the Republican nominee is aiding and abetting a foreign government's interference in our Presidential election.
Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) and Chris Coons (DE) have issued a request to hold Senate hearings on the recent revelations of Russian interference in the electoral process. From Senator Whitehouse's press release:
In the letter, Senator Coons, the Ranking Member on the Judiciary Oversight Subcommittee, and Senator Whitehouse, former U.S. Attorney and Rhode Island Attorney General, point out that U.S. laws prohibit engagement with foreign governments that threatens the country’s interests and seek to prevent foreign influence on American federal elections. Given the dangerous implications of Mr. Trump’s recent statements, the Senators believe a hearing would provide an important opportunity to ensure that sufficient legal protections are available in criminal law and federal courts to protect the integrity of the nation’s elections.
Every Democratic Senator and undoubtedly a few Independent and Republican Senators as well, had to have been mortified, discomfited and appalled to learn that the Russians are inserting themselves in our U.S. elections. We learned of this around Herr Drumpf's 70th Gerburtstag, or as we know it, June 14, which is ironically Flag Day-- American Flag Day, Trump, not the flag of your friend Vladimir.
The intruders so thoroughly compromised the DNC’s system that they also were able to read all email and chat traffic, said DNC officials and the security experts.
The intrusion into the DNC was one of several targeting American political organizations. The networks of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were also targeted by Russian spies, as were the computers of some Republican political action committees, U.S. officials said. But details on those cases were not available.
For reasons not yet made known, the Republicans' breech wasn't viewed as a big intrusion or, maybe the Russians just weren't interested in GOP minutiae for some odd reason...cough cough...Trump.
I checked all Cruz's social media postings as well as the Jr. Texas Senator's website and press releases. Not one word about this request from the two Democratic Senators. Whitehouse/Coons' press release was compelling, to any American, of any party affiliation. Plus, it's two weeks old already, and we've received no acknowledgement of this national security issue by our lovely GOP Senate Obstructionists.
Senator Coons is currently out of the country, but Senator Whitehouse tweeted this on Monday. I doubt he's been given the courtesy of a response.

Cruz is too busy with his other moronic and irrelevant crusades, which he advertises all over social media. Some of those listed are:
- A fearmongering-based border-control obsession.
- Hindering the implementation of the ACA or just destroying it.
- Increasing the bloated military and ensuring that his state is gifted obscene defense contracts to shore up those votes
- Of course, eliminating those damned regulations to allow for more pollution and make sure people can work for less than the minimum wage.
Or as Cruz puts it, (he is)
leading the fight for autonomy from President Obama’s aggressive, regulatory henchmen.
Drama much, Ted Cruz? 'Regulatory Henchmen' sounds a lot like Batman's lingo.
Here's the PDF of the letter drafted by Whitehouse and Coons. The fact that it's been virtually ignored is the epitome of disrespect, irresponsibility and a tacit invitation for foreign nations to commit sedition and treason against this country.
You can call your Senators and Congresspeople to request this very badly-needed hearing, but without a change in leadership, such hearings are unlikely. Let's hope for a Democratic Senate, where Senator Whitehouse can show the House Benghazi people how you hold a hearing when actual wrongdoing is part of the picture.
