Frank Gaffney is, without any doubt, one of the top dealers in Islamophobic hate speech. He's also on Ted Cruz's foreign policy team now.
Wolf Blitzer took a moment to ask Cruz about Gaffney's past statements and whether Cruz stands behind them. Like the coward that he is, Cruz chose to stick his head in the sand and pretend he had no idea what Wolf was talking about.
"Let's be precise," Wolf said. "When [Gaffney] said back in 2009, 'Barack Hussein Obama would have to be considered America's first Muslim president,' do you agree with that?"
Cruz replied, "Listen. I don't know what he said in 2009, and I'm not -- I don't have the full context."
"I'm not interested in playing the media gotcha game of here's every quote, every person who's supporting you has said at every point, do you agree with every statement? That's silliness," he declared.
Cruz then went on to defend Gaffney as a true American, standing against "radical Islamic terrorism," and criticizing Clinton and Obama for refusing to say the words, as if they're a magical incantation that will magically make ISIS lay down and die.
Apparently Cruz haz a sad about President Obama "lecturing" nuts like Gaffney on Islamophobia, too.
The end of this particular clip went down the rabbit hole of the "electromagnetic pulse" (EMP) trope, where the world ends after a bomb is exploded with enough force to create a pulse that destroys the world or something. I keep wondering why they're worried about an EMP, when a nuclear weapon detonated into the atmosphere would seem to have a whole lot more danger attached to it than knocking out our electrical grid.
The final confrontation was Wolf asking Cruz about Gaffney's statements that Saddam Hussein was behind the Oklahoma City bombing and the World Trade Center bombings, an assertion with no basis in fact.
Ted could have been courageous and simply said there was no basis for it, but instead he said this.
"You know I told you a minute ago I'm not going to play the gotcha game with every quote every advisor may have given twenty years ago," Cruz answered in a condescending tone.
So in other words, he agrees.
Frank Gaffney should be poison to any candidate serious about being elected President. But here we have the candidate-in-waiting behind Donald Trump praising him to the heavens.
This is your GOP on drugs, people.
