Donald Trump's position regarding enhanced interrogations or what is commonly known as torture, have been bouncing all over the place these last few days. He's been vigorously campaigning for harsher methods to deal with terrorists and hasn't ruled out bringing back the guillotine if he could, but dialed it back a bit after he was criticized by the military and intelligence community for being unfit to command.
He now says he wouldn't order the U.S. military to violate international laws to fight terrorism, but wants to broaden the laws regarding how we treat prisoners of war.
Enter one of his favorite TV surrogates, CNN's Jeffrey Lord. He should have been fired by CNN last week for his offensive arguments on the KKK, but today he decided to attack the leaders of the military for being part of the out of touch "elites," who are against torture.
Trump: ...we're going to have those laws broadened because we're playing with two sets of rules. Their rules and our rules. And those laws are going to be broadened.
Cuomo: Jeffrey, he's talking about the Geneva convention
Kohl: Basic humanity..
Cuomo: We know what he's doing here, works with the crowd. is this dangerous for him...all these military people getting nervous about him giving illegal orders. Is this the right move?
Lord: I don't think, politically, he makes a mistake when he does this. he's energizing his base and all the folks you just cited, go folks I'm sure and certainly they have a point. But they are in this context, "the establishment," they are "the elites."
Cuomo: The military command?
Lord: Sure, leaders in the military are part of the establishment, are they not?
Cuomo: I don't know. I don't think they get thrown into politicians, big generals who come out and say, this is the wrong thing to do.
Lord: I'm just saying in terms of political pitch, his people understand what he is saying.
The military is bound by military law, even if the commander and chief orders them to commit war crimes so they won't stay silent on this issue. And for Lord to equate them as part of the left wing establishment and political elites is preposterous.
Again, this jackass should be kicked off CNN's airwaves.
