A suicide bomber killed 69 people and injured at least 300 in a late evening attack at a park in Lahore, Pakistan on Easter Sunday. The explosion occurred at the main gate to the Allama Iqbal Park in Iqbal Town, just a few short steps from the children's swing sets.
The park was crowded with families who appear to have been out celebrating the Christian holiday, leading to speculation that was a targeted terrorism attack against Christians. The majority of the victims were women and children.
The News reports that the suicide bomber has been identified as Yousuf, son of Ghulam Farid, a resident of district Muzzafargarh, born January 1, 1988. BBC Breaking News reports that Pakistan Taliban has claimed responsibility for the gruesome attack.
In a statement released by the government, the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed grief and shock over attack. A three day mourning has been announced.
