When it comes to British eccentrics of the late 20th Century, most people would not deny Robyn Hitchcock's penchant for the madcap.

Born on this day, March 3rd, in 1953, Robyn first came to the attention of music fans with his band the Soft Boys in the late 70's (the group also featured Kimberly Rew who later found pop success as the guitar player in Katrina & the Waves.) When the Soft Boys packed it in for the first time in 1981 (they reformed in 2001 and then broke up again in 2003) Robyn embarked on a solo career that has continued under several different guises and projects to this day.

His songs have always been packed Syd Barrett like whimsy, dark humor and clever story telling. That's something he probably inherited from his father, novelist Raymond Hitchcock. Tonight let's listen to something from Robyn's fourth solo album, 1985's Fegmania!. It was his first record to bring him a lot of attention in North America and is still near and dear to the hearts of many fans of off-kilter post-punk British pop songs.
