The Psychedelic Furs lyrics were always pretty oblique but as a 15 year old kid when this record came out I thought I was cracking some kind of code by dissecting them. There's a song on this album titled "President Gas" and on this one, the title track from the album, President Gas is mentioned in lyrics. I've figured that singer Richard Butler invented a catch all term for the two-headed ghoul of the time that was Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher.
I could be completely wrong though too.
