Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is discovering that Karma can be a mean, spiteful thing. It seems he's not all that thrilled when Democrats use the same strategy he used to block any legislation brought up by Republicans.
It all boiled over during Thursday's session, when McConnell came to the Senate floor to complain about Democrats' "filibuster summer;" specifically, their filibuster of a cybersecurity bill. The words "hypocrisy" and "cynicism" might have been mentioned in the heat of McConnell's moment, too.
Senator Harry Reid wasn't shy about returning the riposte, as you'll see in the video above.
"My friend, the Republican leader, threw around words like -- not like -- cynicism, hypocrisy," Reid began. "This speech that my friend gave, I would suggest he walk into his office, his little bathroom there, look in the mirror, because over that mirror he should be able to see the words hypocrisy and cynicism, because the speech he just gave was just fervent with hypocrisy and cynicism."
Reid went on to point out that he tried to get a cybersecurity bill through the Senate for five consecutive years, only to have Mitch McConnell and his Republican Senators filibuster it to death. Oh yes, much hypocrisy.
You can watch the full 35-minute exchange here.
I say the score is Harry Reid: 1 Mitch McConnell: 0. But that's how it's been since McConnell took over leadership. Every time he thinks he might win, someone on his own side of the aisle makes sure President Obama wins instead.
