Fox News host Tucker Carlson suggested over the weekend that schools with transgender bathroom polices were undermining what children were learning about biology in science class.
Last week, the Fairfax County School Board in Virginia voted to add gender identity to its non-discrimination policy.
According to Carlson, this caused "outrage" because it would allow "a student who is male but identifies as a female" to use the girl's bathroom.
Elizabeth Schultz, the only Fairfax County School Board member to vote against transgender protections, told Carlson that the policy was the result of "government overreach."
"The notion that the federal government can reach into the 14,000 school districts across the United States of America and tell 90,000 school board members that you must comply or we're going take away your federal education money is preposterous," she insisted. "That money is meant for the neediest children in our communities, for the hungriest children, for children with disabilities."
Carlson argued that it was hypocritical for schools to teach science while not forcing transgender students to use the bathroom that corresponded to their biology.
"Isn't a little weird that that a school which is supposed to be rooted in science and the scientific method is teaching now that there is that there is no difference between men and women and you can change your sex?" he wondered. "Of course, that's contrary to basic biology."
"The left's war on biology continues," the Fox News host lamented. "It's a weird moment in America."
