No matter how badly Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu behaves, National Journal's "both sides" Ron Fournier thinks it's up to President Obama to let it go and "act like the adult in the room," because we all know that that there should never be any penalty involved when conservatives act like petulant children.
He's also terribly upset that the Israeli's might be hung out to dry by themselves at the United Nations if the White House would make good on their threat to side with the Security Council there, because of course for the Israelis there should never be any consequences for sticking your finger in the eye of the one country that's still supposed to be your ally.
I for one hope that White House makes good on that threat. It's long overdue, no matter how much crying we hear from the Villagers like Fournier.
From CNN's New Day this Thursday prior to Bibi doing his flip-flopping on a two-state solution.
FOURNIER: You know the problem is, Israel's enemies, whatever you want to say about Bibi, they're playing for keeps. And the US could be playing with fire if they're gonna play these kinds of games in the UN. I am not a big fan of Bibi. I think the administration has ever reason to be upset with him, but somebody's gotta be the adult in the room in this relationship and somebody's gotta reach out and say, "How do we put this back together and have peace talks again and have a decent relationship?" We can't have our White House acting just as petulant as Bibi. […]
What happens if Barack Obama takes his football and goes back home and leave Israel completely isolated in the UN? You just can't do that. You just can't.
KING: I guess that's the big question. There's no question there's personal animus between these two guys. Now there are more policy agreements between these two guys. The question is can they lift their heads and look at the strategic, take their names, essentially set the names aside, set their personalities aside, set their pride aside which is hard for a politician and focus on the... this is the United States and Israel, not Barack Obama and Bibi Netanyahu?
FOURNIER: Well put and that's what big boys do. That's what leaders do. Barack Obama's got to do it.
Sorry Ron, but these aren't "boys" and this isn't a game and the United Nations isn't a "playground." We're talking about matters of war and peace and whether we're going to allow the Republicans in this country and the right wingers in Israel to drag us into another war in the Middle East.
