George Clinton once said that "funk is the DNA of hip hop," which is a statement that I would absolutely agree with. However, I'd take it a step further and say that jazz is the DNA of funk. So, when you skip a generation in blending two genres, you get something that sounds like this. Nobukazu Takemura has a unique sound all his own including sounds not only from jazz and hip hop, but from his native Japan as well.
