The St. Louis Rams announced that Michael Sam didn't make their 53 man roster this spring so they waived him. But that's not the end of the world for Sam at this point in his career since he showed a lot of promise during the preseason.
Sam officially hit waivers Saturday at 4 p.m. ET when all NFL teams had to trim their rosters to the league-mandated 53 players. From there, the other 31 teams will have until noon ET on Sunday to put in a claim for Sam. If he goes unclaimed, he will be free to sign with a practice squad.
A league source said earlier this week that the Rams would like to bring Sam back to their 10-man practice squad, but Fisher fended off questions about any potential moves Saturday, saying the practice squad will be affected by the team's needs at other positions.

After the game, Fisher offered an endorsement of Sam's ability.
"I believe he can play in this league," Fisher said.
He definetly will get more chances down the road, but I'll say this. A player that wins the SEC defensive player of the year usually is drafted much higher than the seventh round and I believe he dropped because he came out as gay. Higher draft picks make more money so if a player is drafted in the third round and is graded close to a lower draft pick then he usually makes the team. Either way, Michael Sam still has a chance at a career in the NFL.
I imagine the homophobes will be out in force tomorrow, but during this training camp, outside of ESPN trying to stir the homophobia pot and Tony Dungy's idiocy, the fact that Sam was gay didn't cause the massive distractions that the media and the gay bashers were saying it would.
