Charles Krauthammer offered up the most disreputably ridiculous and sophomoric interpretation of the "preventive care" aspects included in the ACA, and boiled it down to the Obama administration believing that being "pregnant is a disease to be prevented."

Conservatives have been trying their damnest to support the Supreme court's decision on Hobby Lobby all day long and blast lefties for being apoplectic about the decision. They've been saying how narrow the decision really is, Ruth Bader Ginsburg's dissent is hyperventilated nonsense and what's wrong with omitting four out of twenty forms of so called birth control?

The cacophony of silliness screeched at high volume on Fox News' Special Report with Bret Baier, as Charles Krauthammer offered up the most disreputably ridiculous and sophomoric interpretation of the "preventive care" aspects included in the ACA, (Obamacare) which applies to contraception and boiled it down to the Obama administration believing that being pregnant is a disease to be prevented. I kid you not.

Krauthammer: It's a question of who is changing the status-quo here. When you have.....the entitlement state so that the government dictates how health care is delivered. Who has to get what kind of coverage--who pays for it.

And it defines..the only thing in the ACA is that you should cover preventative care that should be without a copay. You could define that as meaning mammograms for example or all kinds of tests. They defined it arbitrarily as meaning contraception, as if a pregnancy is a disease to be prevented.

First of all his statement is a complete lie. The fact that Obama has two daughters doesn't back up his ludicrousness about the ACA viewing pregnancy as a disease. The ACA does consider mammograms and all kinds of tests as part of preventive care already, but Krauthammer opines that the ACA only defines it as contraception. On the HHS.gov healthcare page, it lists fifteen covered preventive services for adults and twenty two preventive services for women, including pregnant women:

The eight new prevention-related health services marked with an asterisk ( * ) must be covered with no cost-sharing in plan years starting on or after August 1, 2012.

  1. Anemia screening on a routine basis for pregnant women
  2. Bacteriuria urinary tract or other infection screening for pregnant women
  3. BRCA counseling about genetic testing for women at higher risk
  4. Breast Cancer Mammography screenings every 1 to 2 years for women over 40
  5. Breast Cancer Chemoprevention counseling for women at higher risk
  6. Breastfeeding comprehensive support and counseling from trained providers, as well as access to breastfeeding supplies, for pregnant and nursing women*
  7. Cervical Cancer screening for sexually active women
  8. Chlamydia Infection screening for younger women and other women at higher risk
  9. Contraception: Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling, not including abortifacient drugs*
  10. Domestic and interpersonal violence screening and counseling for all women*
  11. Folic Acid supplements for women who may become pregnant
  12. Gestational diabetes screening for women 24 to 28 weeks pregnant and those at high risk of developing gestational diabetes*
  13. Gonorrhea screening for all women at higher risk
  14. Hepatitis B screening for pregnant women at their first prenatal visit
  15. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) screening and counseling for sexually active women*
  16. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA Test: high risk HPV DNA testing every three years for women with normal cytology results who are 30 or older*
  17. Osteoporosis screening for women over age 60 depending on risk factors
  18. Rh Incompatibility screening for all pregnant women and follow-up testing for women at higher risk
  19. Tobacco Use screening and interventions for all women, and expanded counseling for pregnant tobacco users
  20. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) counseling for sexually active women*
  21. Syphilis screening for all pregnant women or other women at increased risk
  22. Well-woman visits to obtain recommended preventive services*

That is quite a comprehensive list of preventive care that is being offered all Americans. Why Krauthammer would lie so badly on what the law covers and how it covers it should get him banned from the Washington Post as a columnist. Don't hold your breath.

You can also read on Salon how Charles has flip flopped on judicial activism.
