Fox News figured they had the Benghazi Select Committee all sewn up. There would be an uneven number of Democrats and Republicans, so they could air the hearings and cut away from Dems for commercials without too much risk. That would give their audience plenty of fear fodder and their useless hosts something to talk about.

And then progressives came along and started making noise about appointing only Alan Grayson to the panel. This is unacceptable to our Fox News overlords, it seems.

Media Matters:

On the May 20 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, co-hosts Steve Doocy and Elisabeth Hasselbeck agreed that the committee needed someone more on board with the committee's goals and described [Grayson] as a "spoke in the wheel" to the select committee:

HASSELBECK: Now, if he's gonna prosecute and try to get in there and probe into someone, it should be why we haven't had any answers and why no one knew about this and why these Americans were left to die. But if his focus, then, if the center of the target happens to be Republicans, is that a good idea to have this guy in there?

DOOCY: Here's the thing. This all started out as a joke on Twitter and the blogs, and now essentially what they're saying is: 'let's go ahead and gum up the works, let's turn it into a kangaroo court, and have this particular guy.' MoveOn.org says, "Our interest is to have someone with great credibility and stature among Democrats and Republicans. Well you know what? With all due respect to the congressman, he's not the one. Republicans do not think he is a great statesman.

The entire idea of a Select Committee is a joke, but the blogs and Twitter were not joking at all about appointing Grayson. We're completely serious about that part, because there should be someone on there constantly reminding observers about what a complete farce this thing is.

It's funny how concerned Fox suddenly is about Americans being left to die. They never had such passion for it before the right wing lunatics started snuffling around about it.

As for Grayson's statesmanship or lack thereof, well...we're not looking for a diplomat. We're looking for a bulldog who will be relentless about reminding everyone why it is we're wasting taxpayers' money on this stupid committee and investigation which is destined to go nowhere.

As long as I'm on the topic of this ridiculous committee, a word or two for Steny Hoyer is in order. Rep. Hoyer, you must discard the idea that this committee is any kind of serious effort.

It must be treated as the unserious thing that it is.

If this were Republicans, they'd either boycott it like they did Barbara Boxer's climate change hearing, or they would load it up with the likes of Michele Bachmann and Louis Gohmert and treated it like a joke. Just appoint Grayson and let the rest unfold.

Bonus: Watch the video to the end and see the hilarity as these three goofs realize no young people ever watch Fox News or care about anything they care about.
