Norman McLaren is more of a visual artist, but whether or not the sound is a byproduct of his film work doesn't make much of a difference when you consider that he did this in 1940.

It starts off very sparse, with a few clicks and other synthesized noises. However, it gradually grows into something of a marching drum cadence, but, in this case, implemented through the use of early sequencing and synth techniques. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me, especially when you consider everything that has come from that kind of experimentation.
