Ever get tired of hearing the same old instruments? Probably not, but if you are, then Harry Partch has invented many instruments that should make things more interesting.

He's also made some of his own innovations in music theory, having invented a 43-tone musical scale (our Western scales going as high as 12), and, in turn, instruments that can support his experiments. However, all of this work added up to a plethora of sonic applications, many of which you can hear in this piece. The most prevalent among them in this work is the use of sound effects. Having more notes and timbres to choose from made it so that Partch could better replicate sounds like train noises and human speech in a more natural and less forced way. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me; plus, it'll be pretty interesting to see what people will do with the concepts and technologies that Partch introduced to the world of music.

What's your favorite musical instrument?
