(h/t Nonny)
From ghoulies and ghosties. And long-leggedy beasties. And things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!
It's almost Halloween, when many of us gather around the electronic hearth and watch scary movies. I prefer the ones that build up psychological dread to stories that make you jump out of your seat, but I've been known to yell in the movie theater, too. My must-see favorites include:
- The Exorcist (Exorcist 3: Legion was satisfyingly creepy, but Exorcist 2: The Heretic just might be the absolute worst movie I've ever seen. Sometimes I watch it just to laugh at how bad it is). For younger viewers, you might be too jaded for this (check out the director's cut, the deleted scenes are scary as, uh, hell), but it was a trailblazer at the time.
- The Shining (although author Stephen King hates the movie, just the visual flashes of those creepy little girls scared the hell out of me).
- Fallen, which has some plot holes you could drive a truck through, is still one of the absolute scariest things I've ever seen.
What are yours?
