Lightnin' Hopkins was one of the most prominent Texas blues men back in his day. Many were influenced by his style and playing techniques. Since he didn't play with a backing band, he'd often slap his guitar for a percussive effect. He would also employ sprechstimme in many of his songs rather than singing, a style which would be made popular by the likes of Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. Like the other blues men of his time, Lightnin' Hopkins was highly influential, not only to future generations of artists, but also his contemporaries.
