Never was a big fan of Bonobo, but he does have a few good ideas. For instance, here we see him triggering some fancy samples while actual instrumentalists fill out the rest of the arrangement. This is especially impressive if you listen to the original recording, which features mostly electronic samples and much fewer live instruments than you see in the video. However, this shows that Bonobo cares enough about his music that he's willing to sit down with these musicians and work out arrangements with them to add some more complexity to his pieces. What's the big deal about that, though? Plenty of musicians combined electronic and live elements to their sound, dating back to the discovery of electricity. While that is true, many electronic artists these days have been straying from that model in favor of relying more heavily on samples or their own synth sounds (or worse, presets). Even though there's nothing wrong with that, it is nice to see that there are some artists out there who make it their business to continue blending these two elements to create more interesting arrangements.
Any favorite pieces that combine live and electronic instrumentation?
