I grew up in Los Angeles, so I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Adam Carolla is one incredibly lucky S.O.B. Because I was there for his big radio break as co-host of "Loveline" and even then, he was only marginally funny, unusually proud of being ignorant and frequently just plain offensive. His insults on the stupidity of Hawaiians led to affiliates in the state dropping the show. And later comments on boxer Manny Pacquiao all but brought the entire nation of the Philippines against him.
So, having a seat from its inception, I can tell you that Carolla has managed to carve out an impressively lucrative career from very little talent or merit. Make no mistake, I do not begrudge him his career. It is the very definition of the American Dream where someone can rise above his modest circumstances (his mother apparently was a intermittent recipient of welfare) and become one of the 1 percent. However, Carolla does have some very twisted notions of entitlement, based on these comments to the conservative (and frequently misguided and wrong) Media Research Center. He clearly has no patience for those members of the 99 percent who would like to see more economic justice in this country:
The comedian and talk show host went on a rant of epic proportions against the self-styled 99 percent, linking their grievances against the country's economic imbalance to what he thinks is a generation of kids raised too softly by their parents.
"There's something that's come up in this country that didn't use to exist, which is envy. And it's a big issue," Corolla said in an interview posted by the conservative Media Research Center. "It was understood back in the day, and we are empowering, we're now dealing with the first wave of participation trophy, my own fecal matter doesn't stink, empowered, I feel so f*cking good about myself, everyone's a winner, there's no losers, we're dealing with the first wave of those f*cking assholes.
Corolla got specific in his railing, calling out those who administer youth athletics and blaming their leniency in awarding children prizes with creating the multi-national movement.
"We’ve created a bunch of f*cking self-entitled monsters. And this has become the pursuit of my life where people are so far out of it in what they expect and what they think realistic is and what the set of rules that pertains to them versus the other guys- Because that’s what the bottom line is," the host said. "‘I want my Most Valuable Player trophy.’ ‘Well, you’re the slowest, fattest guy on the team.’ Why should he get one and I don’t?’ ‘Because he busts his ass and he runs a 4.4 40. That’s why he gets one.’ ‘Well, this is bullsh*t.’ And then everyone gets involved and everyone gives everyone a participation trophy and then everyone feels good about themselves but it’s not based on anything."
You know, this is par for course for the proudly ignorant Carolla. It is no different from his rants on proper gender roles, the Asian community and the gay community.
There's very clearly a self-entitled entity in this equation, but I don't think it's the Occupy protesters.
