Perry Farrell won't be coming down any mountains any time soon.
The ageless singer (nee Peretz Bernstein -- we share a last name in real life) tore his calf last night in Atlanta while performing with the reunited Jane's Addiction, who are currently on tour with Nine Inch Nails. He was promptly rushed to the hospital after the show.
According to Spin, doctors have told Farrell to stay off the leg for a few days, but the band is planning on playing their show tonight in Austin anyway. Rock stars not taking doctor's orders? I've never...
I've actually seen some great performances by chairbound rockers before. In 2003, I saw fantastic sets by a pre-treadmill OkGo (opening for Fountains of Wayne) with singer-guitarist Damian Kulash sitting down with his leg in a full cast, and two back-to-back King's X shows with singer-guitarist Ty Tabor in a swivel chair and a neckbrace. Both of them brought the heat.
Even at 50, Farrell is known for being one of the most energetic, calorie burning frontmen around (which sometimes means a torn calf muscle.) Jane's fans might not feel like they'd be getting their money's worth from a sedentary Farrell -- we'll see if he ignores the doctors tonight.
