Astronaut Timothy L. Korpa has been a fan of Echo and the Bunnymen since his teens. How is he showing his appreciation for his favorite band? The only way an astronaut should: by blasting their music into space. During his upcoming mission on the International Space Station, Korma will be bringing a copy of the Bunnymen's 1984 classic Ocean Rain and sampling it for the cosmos. Hey, Ian McCollough: how cool is that?!

Fortunately, McCollough (singer of Echo and the Bunnymen), known for his detached, cool performance style, wasn't afraid to get excited:

“What an honour," said McCollugh. "Now it’s official. We are the coolest band in the universe. As a kid I dreamt of being an astronaut, and now in a way it feels like I’m fulfilling that dream. I cannot wait to hear from Tim what it is like to listen to ‘The Killing Moon’ in the actual glow of the moon.”

Upon hearing of Korpa's intention to blast his favorite Liverpudlians into space, the band promptly sent him an autographed copy of the album. Korpa plans to send back pictures of the crew of the ISS posing with the album while listening to it.

The timing perfectly coincides with the release of a box set version of Ocean Rain, which comes out May 30th.
